About Local Women’s Handicrafts
Local Women’s Handicrafts is a fair trade textile and handicraft collective based in Kathmandu, Nepal. They focus on empowering and educating disadvantaged women using sustainable methods. All products are ethically produced, providing fair wages and working conditions for the women who make them. Their social business program seeks to uplift women, their children and their communities.
Their commitment to sustainability
Local Women’s Handicrafts is committed to environmental sustainability in all aspects of their production. They make products using recycled saris and upcycled materials that were waste from manufacturing. They have a zero-waste policy so they try and reuse everything they have. The centre even runs on biogas and is a haven for women to explore their creativity in a sustainable manner.
